RC1.2 security update for Ichiraku (16 July 2009); board reorganizations

16 07 2009

Hi all,
We have recently updated to SMF 2.0 RC1.2 which patches security holes in the previous version of RC1-1. If you have problems, or you are encountering issues, you can post in this thread: http://ichiraku.org/index.php?topic=2706.0

Currently the issues that we have are the buttons for “Forum” and “Blogs” are not visible in the menu bar, but we are at work fixing this as of this writing (it may have been overwritten by the update). For the meantime, you can use THIS LINK to access the board index. Take note that even though you cannot see the “Forum” and the “Blogs” button, you can still access them. Some of our notable modifications, which include the Activity Bar (aka “Posting Power”), has also been removed temporarily pending the developer’s update to RC1.2.

In other news we have reorganized our boards in the first part of what may well be a series of restructuring to make our forums more organized and more intuitive. We have placed The Plug Socket inside the Random board, which have been moved to the Dessert category in keeping with its traditional location. Future board reorganizations may concern the fate of The Logbook and the Random boards, and perhaps even The Lounge board.

Thank you,

Ichiraku DEV

Welcome to Ichiraku Dev!

Hello everyone!

As part of the roll-out of the new changes we have implemented on the core forum functionality, we have decided to discontinue the use of our Update Log board in the Ichiraku forum proper, and move it here instead.

There are quite a few reasons that we have made the move, but one of these is a sort of a “fallback” community where users can ask us in case of a domain or server failure of http://ichiraku.org. It is funny how we have arrived at this decision, but last night when we migrated Ichiraku to SMF 2.0 RC1-1 from SMF 1.1.9, we were also contending with server-side issues as they were upgrading at that time as well. This is why the 2-hour maintenance at most was delayed until 4.30am the next morning. This way, if an unexpected crash occurs again, or if you need to have somewhere to hang out on while waiting for maintenance to complete, you can use our blog as a limited community. Not only that, but we can also answer your questions while you’re waiting. Think of it as a lounge, and we will be your hosts.

Another thing is that the Update Logs are rarely checked, and most of the time they’re just that – a record-keeping inventory of who made what changes. This time, ICHIRAKU DEV aims to have your administrators and the great men and women who are part of the staff of Ichiraku inform of you of coming changes, and may even ask your support or opinion on various issues. Such announcements will be issued along with the news posted in the News and Announcements board. And of course, we will also record the changes that we have made, both in the forum and in our community policies.

So there you have it. If you have questions, please feel free to post a comment and we will attend to it as soon as we can.
